Car goes down embankment on 84 in Southington, lands in river

SOUTHINGTON, CT (WFSB) -

Southington police and fire reported that a vehicle that went off of Interstate 84 east and into a wooded embankment landed in about three feet of water in a river.

Firefighters had to extricate two occupants from the vehicle and both were taken to Hartford Hospital. Their conditions were unknown as of 10 p.m.

The crash happened at about 6:30 p.m. and state police were still on the scene investigating a little after 10 p.m. 

The exit 30 eastbound ramp was closed and one lane of I-84 was shut down while police investigated and removed the vehicle from the river.
