Extensive smoke damage after overnight house fire in Chesterfield

Posted: Updated:
CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

Several adults had to escape an overnight house fire in Chesterfield.

The fire started in the 4600 block of Fitzroy Road just after 1 a.m. Thursday. Firefighters had it out in 20 minutes but were there for hours trying to figure out what caused the home to go up in smoke.

There were several adults inside the home who were all able to get out safely and without any injuries.

There is moderate damage to the rooms inside the home, mostly smoke damage. When crews arrived to the scene we're told light smoke turned to heavy smoke.

The family was given the option to stay someplace else for now because of the amount of smoke damage. Crews have left the scene but this fire remains under investigation.
