Major traffic changes went into effect during the Wednesday morning commute for some drivers in the New Haven area.
Exit 2 on Route 34 will be closed to make room for the downtown crossing project. The project is expected to add more than 11 acres of land for new developments.
This closure comes after Martin Luther King Boulevard was widened to three travel lanes between Church and College streets to accommodate traffic flow.
City officials have asked drivers take alternate routes into the city.
The closure was originally expected to close on Monday, but it was rescheduled because of severe weather conditions.
