Officials with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection reported that the moose they were looking for was struck and killed early Sunday morning.
The small female moose was struck at about 4:30 a.m. on I-84 Eastbound near exit 31 in Bristol and exit 32 in Southington, according to officials.
According to Dennis Schain, spokesman for the DEEP, the moose was hit by a tractor-trailer. There was no information on any injuries sustained by the driver.
This is the first moose that has been killed this year that DEEP is aware of.
State Department of Transportation crews removed the moose from the roadways.
There were reports of a moose sighting near Cheshire and Waterbury near I-84 yesterday. According to DEEP, there is no certainty that the moose killed Sunday was the same one that had been spotted.
