New Canaan public works employee struck by car

NEW CANAAN, CT (WFSB) -

New Canaan police said a Public Works Department employee was struck by a vehicle on Wednesday while he was marking the road with spray paint.

The worker, identified as 71-year-old Benjamin Olmstead, was struck a little after 11 a.m. by a vehicle that was reportedly traveling north on New Norwalk Road and was attempting to make a left turn onto East Avenue.

Police said the driver stopped and remained on the scene and Olmstead was transported to Norwalk Hospital for serious injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Francesco Sorge, 60, of Norwalk.

The accident is under investigation.
