WASHINGTON, DC (CNN) – The Department of Veterans Affairs is getting a new chief.

The Senate on Tuesday unanimously confirmed Robert McDonald as the next VA secretary. McDonald is a former CEO and ex-Army officer.

He takes the place of Eric Shinseki, who resigned in May after a healthcare scandal rocked the department.

On Monday, the House and Senate Veterans Affairs committees approved legislation to reform the department of Veterans Affairs.

Congress could approve the bill this week.

McDonald says he will take “immediate actions” in his first three months to fix problems at the VA.
