Young people in a tight knit community are struggling to cope with a sudden loss of a fellow student and friend.
Emily Fedorko, 16, died this week when she was hit by the boat while tubing.
Fedorko, a rising junior at Greenwich High School, was killed Wednesday after she was hit by the propeller on the boat she was tubing behind. Her friend was also hurt.
"It got around a lot and it was pretty sad when I heard it," said Flavian Lolo, who is a Greenwich High School student. "It hurt my whole family."
Lolo, like all people his age, was out on summer break. But when news about what happened to his classmate started spreading -- everyone started sharing how difficult it has been because of how shocking the accident and Fedorko 's death was.
"It really hurt a lot of people like the way it happened," Lolo said.
Greenwich public schools opened the high school and a middle school for counseling this week. Officials told Eyewitness News families have been taking advantage of more than 20 counselors and reaching out in a variety of ways.
"We have to keep our head up and at least put her in our prayers about what happened," Greenwich School Superintendent Dr. William McKersie said.
Officials with Greenwich Public Schools is now evaluating counseling needs for next week and for when students and staff return in just a few weeks for the new school year.
