SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Police responded to Dickinson Street early Sunday morning after they received reports that a woman wearing a "glittery skirt" was firing a handgun into the air.

Investigators learned that the woman in question was the driver of a car that was involved in a fender bender car accident leading up to the shooting, according to Springfield police Sgt. John Delaney.

Baring a stolen 9 mm handgun and a glittery skirt, the woman became so enraged after the accident that she pulled out the gun and began to fire it, Delaney said.

The accident occurred in front of 81 Dickinson St. about 3 a.m. and the driver of the other car involved fled the scene. When police arrived they saw a Lexus sedan with front-end damage being driven up the Dickinson Street hill so they initiated a traffic stop, Delaney said.

Police spoke to witnesses and conducted an investigation. They found that the male passenger in the Lexus hid the gun in the bushes nearby before police arrived, Delaney said.

The gun was recovered and both subjects were arrested. The weapon was one of the guns stolen from Camfour Inc., a Westfield gun dealer located at 65 Westfield Industrial Park Rd., where 56 guns were stolen, according to Delaney.

Jessica D. Velazquez, 32, of 16 Alderman St. in Springfield, and Samuel P. Oquendo, 29, of 17 Monroe St. in Holyoke were charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, discharging a firearm, receiving stolen property, possession of ammunition, and possession of a large capacity firearm, Delaney said.

Both suspects were scheduled to be arraigned in Springfield District Court on Monday.
