NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

After a long and drawn-out custody battle, West Hartford teenager Justina Pelletier was finally reunited with her family in June, and are celebrating her homecoming.

Last year, Massachusetts officials took Justina away from her parents, and she was being treated at Boston Hospital.

Certain doctors did not believe she was sick and accused the family of abuse, but in June a judge ruled that the teen could head home.

Sunday, the family was celebrating her homecoming at Anthony's Ocean View in New Haven.

"Tonight is about celebrating my little sister Justina, celebrating her homecoming, celebrating her being strong and such a fantastic sparkling kid," said Jennifer Pelletier, Justina's sister.

Justina was being treated in Boston for Mitochondrial disease, but doctors had rejected the diagnosis and said her problems were psychiatric.

The custody battle was 16 months long, and in June Justina was finally able to return to West Hartford.

"It was almost 17 months of that nonsense. Here we are now, moving forward, getting her back in the right direction and she just needs all of the positive support she can get," Jennifer added.

The Pelletier family said they're still looking at their legal options.
