LONGMEADOW, MA (WSHM) -

The four-car accident that occurred near Bliss Park Wednesday afternoon was caused by a driver who ran a red light, according to Longmeadow police Capt. John Stankiewicz.

Emergency crews responded to the intersection of Bliss Road and Laurel Street about 12:50 p.m. Police closed the intersection, which has a four-way traffic signal, immediately after arriving on scene.

The driver of one vehicle was taken to Baystate Medical Center with serious injuries, and another driver was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The operators of the two other cars and three passengers were evaluated by EMS and refused to be transported to the hospital, Stankiewicz said.

State police from the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (C.A.R.S.) responded to the accident to assist in the investigation before any vehicles were towed from the scene.

A Mercury SUV, Honda Civic coupe and Ford Taurus were involved in the accident along with another vehicle.

There is no word yet on any injuries.

CBS 3 Springfield has a crew on scene and will provide more details as they are made available.
