A multi-agency investigation into suspected criminal activities involving the gang known as Eastside Crips resulted in 17 arrests.

At a press conference in late August, Tucson Police Chief Roberto Villasenor said police believe the subjects of this investigation are an organized group suspected of drug trafficking, money laundering, homicides and other violent crimes on behalf of gang leadership.

Search warrants were executed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Tucson Police Department and the Arizona Department of Public Safety. More than 200 officials executed the search warrants at nine locations around Tucson.

The original 16 suspects face various charges including illegally controlling an enterprise, trafficking, money laundering, misconduct involving weapons, and other charges.

The 17th suspect was arrested on Sept. 22 in Ohio and is awaiting extradition back to Tucson.
