NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

The National Hurricane Center warns of an "increase in Internet hype" surrounding non-credible predictions popping up online.

Earlier this week, a Facebook post went viral showing a graphic of a monstrous hurricane heading for the Gulf Coast. The graphic created quite the scare for many in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida viewing areas.

The post has since been removed and their website has been temporarily disabled.

The Hurricane Center reminds the public that a forecast made more than a week out have no reliable science. They add that web surfers should rely on official National Hurricane Center information for credible information.
