QUARTZSITE, AZ (CBS5) -

A man wanted by police on domestic violence charges died when he traveled the wrong way on Interstate 10 and slammed head-on into a tractor-trailer, Arizona Department of Public Safety officers said.

The collision shut down eastbound I-10 near Quartzsite for more than nine hours. The eastbound lanes reopened about 6:40 p.m., the Arizona Department of Transportation said.

It's unclear if authorities were chasing the man at the time of the crash, Carrick Cook of DPS said.

Officers said the wanted man was dead at the scene and the semi caught fire.

The victim's name hasn't been released yet. No information was available on the condition of the tractor-trailer driver.
