A Spartanburg man said his wife tried to kill him with a shotgun and then an ax in a fight over beer and TV remote control, according to deputies.
Officers were called to the couple's Glenn Springs Road home on Sunday where they found Patricia Owensby wearing only a T-shirt and underwear along with her husband, whose T-shirt was torn, according to the Spartanburg County sheriff's office report.
Deputies said Owensby was reportedly drinking through the day and was arguing about her husband going to buy more beer, but he told her he needed to find the remote first. She threatened to shoot him, so while he was looking for the remote, he removed the shells from the shotgun, according to deputies.
A few minutes later Owensby got the shotgun, pointed it at her husband and pulled the trigger, but it gave an empty clicking sound, according to deputies.
Owensby began to hit her husband, ripping at his shirt, and he went outside to call 911, deputies said. She picked up a fire ax that was lying outside, but he was able to get it from her before she hit him, deputies said.
Deputies said Owensby claimed her husband hit her in the head and she was bleeding, but officers said they did not see any injuries.
Owensby was arrested by deputies on a charge of criminal domestic violence high and aggravated but a judge instead issued a warrant for attempted murder, stating that Owensby tried to kill her husband with the shotgun and ax, according to the report. She is being held in the jail without bond.
