Plainfield police investigate fatal train crash

PLAINFIELD, CT (WFSB) -

A Rhode Island man has died after being struck and killed by a train on Monday afternoon.

Plainfield police said they responded to the area of Rawson Material and Hopkins Fabrication at 351 Norwich Road after reports of a pedestrian struck by a privately owned train on privately owned railroad tracks.

Police said that 39-year-old James A. Hawkins III, from Coventry, RI, was killed after being struck by the train that is owned and was being operated by Donald Hopkins, 44, of Plainfield.

The incident is still under investigation.
