NOGALES, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Customs and Border Protection officers in Nogales stopped several people who reportedly attempted to take unreported currency across the border in the past week.

Port of Nogales officials first apprehended a 25-year-old Mexican man on Sunday, Aug. 24 because they said he failed to declare more than $190,000 when he attempted to cross into Mexico.

Next, CBP officers at the Mariposa crossing inspected a car driven by Luis Yovanni De La Herran-Zamudio and found the unreported money hidden beneath his vehicle's rear hatch, according to a news release.

Officers seized the car and money and referred De La Herran to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.

CBP said these events came one week after officers at the DeConcini crossing seized approximately $420,000 in unreported U.S. currency from a male resident of Nogales, Sonora, Mexico.
