NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

The Liberty Bank SurPRIZE Squad received a dose of delicious history on its latest quest to give back to the community on Wednesday.

Nicole Nalepa and company surprised some hungry customers at Louis' Lunch on Crown Street in New Haven.

Louis' Lunch has been in the Elm City for nearly 120 years. It's also known as the "birthplace of the hamburger."

"If you were to have one today, yours would be cooked in the same stoves that my great-grandfather made the original in," said Jeff Lassen, the owner.

There's a certain mystique to the place, like the "Louis' lingo." Ordering a "cheeseworks" gets the customer a cheeseburger with fresh tomato and onion.

Don't even think about bringing in any condiments. They're frowned upon. Nalepa experienced that firsthand.

That, however, is what makes the place so special.

"I walked in and ‘surprise!'" said Jerry Hsu, a Yale University junior.

Hsu was just one of many people the Liberty Bank SurPRIZE Squad surprised. He was at the end of a long line of hungry customers that had their tabs paid.

Louis' is a small place, but somehow the squad was still able to be sneaky. For those who asked, Nalepa told them she was working on a "feature story."

"This is on my bucket list," said Bob Yazmer of Shelton, who came to the historic lunch spot with his wife, Dory Yazmer.

They were one of the couples who were caught off guard when "surprise!" was yelled.

"I was a redhead," said Dory Yazmer. "Now look at me!"

Their reaction was priceless.

"You are wonderful!" said Dory Yazmer. "I love you all!"
