Friends and family will pay tribute to the teen who drowned on Labor Day in West Haven.
A vigil will be held on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Bradley Point in memory of Alejandro Zitlalpopoca, who drowned while swimming out to a rock on Monday.
West Haven school officials said they may create a scholarship in his name as well.
They are also helping the family raise money so Zitlalpopoca can be laid to rest in Mexico, and to care for his baby daughter.
The school officials will be collecting monetary donations and gift cards to stores like Buy Buy Baby, and Babies R Us.
Checks can be made out to West Haven High School, and "Zitlalpopoca Family" should be written on the memo line.
Donations can be mailed to West Haven High School at 1 McDonough Plaza, West Haven, CT 06516. Questions can be directed to Assistant Principal Dana Martinez at (203)937-4360 x7110 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
