"We are disappointed to be included among hospitals failing to meet the new standards of the Hospital Acquired Condition Reduction Program report and will be reviewing the data carefully. It is troubling, however, that more than half of this nation's teaching hospitals are on this list which clearly suggests the research is flawed. The use of non-validated claims data, a lack of adjustment for important socioeconomic factors, and limited risk adjustment measures are all serious limitations. These limitations disproportionately affect and penalize teaching hospitals, making our role as frontline “safety net” healthcare providers even more difficult. Also, this data is from 2012 and we have been working diligently on our protocols – and with success - to address these areas. Saint Francis prides itself on the many quality and patient safety recognitions that it consistently achieves from Consumer Reports, Leapfrog, Healthgrades, CareChex, Most Wired and other leading national quality review organizations," said a statement from St. Francis Hospital.
