Edible Ornaments - Christmas Tree Cookies  

For the cookie it self:

2 cups flour; ½ cup sugar; ½ tsp baking soda; 1 tsp salt; 1 tsp ginger; ½ tsp cinnamon; 2/3 cup molasses; 6 tablespoons Crisco shortening.

Sift together dry ingredients. Heat molasses to a boil, remove from heat add shortening. Allow shortening to "melt". Add dry ingredients, mix thoroughly. Chill. Roll out so dough is fairly thin. Cut into shapes. Bake at 350 for @ 8 minutes. Remove to a tray to cool.


Frost with Confectioners Sugar Frosting:

6 egg whites; 2 shakes crème of tartar; 2 ½ 1 lb boxes of confectioners' sugar.

In a food processor add egg whites. Mix until stiff peaks. Add crème of tartar. Add the sugar. Frost a test cookie and allow it to "harden", around 20 minutes. Then take a paint brush and using food coloring - we use McCormick's - paint the cookie.
