BRIDGEPORT, CT (AP) -

An engineer who worked for a defense contractor who's been charged with attempting to travel to China with stolen documents on the development of advanced titanium for U.S. military aircraft is asking a judge to free him while he awaits trial.

A hearing on Yu Long's request to be released on bond is scheduled for federal court in Bridgeport on Thursday.

Long has been detained since his November arrest.

Long wants to be released so he can live with his girlfriend and take care of their daughter. He is also willing to surrender his passport and submit to electronic monitoring.

Prosecutors in their response say the 36-year-old Long is a flight risk who has shown prior disdain for the law.

Long is a Chinese citizen and a permanent resident of the United States.
