Police said a North Carolina woman was shot and killed this weekend by her boyfriend.
She was six months pregnant and against the odds, her baby survived.
Kimberly Richardson was six months pregnant, and friends said she had a name picked out for her baby girl, who she wanted to call “Lacey.:
"She was really, really happy. I sent her a text the day before she went to go find out the sex of the baby and just told her how happy I was for her and how excited I am,” said friend Paige Bragdon.
Unfortunately, the mom won't ever meet her little girl.
Police said Richardson's boyfriend, Daniel Steele, shot her on Saturday night near Triangle Town Center.
She died but doctors were able to save her baby.
Friends said Richardson was from Youngsville and was working at Zales at the mall near where she was killed.
Neighbors said Steele was a security guard at the mall.
In a 9-1-1 call from the shooting, Richardson herself told dispatchers “he shot me.”
Police arrested Steele shortly after at his home just a few miles away.
He was charged with first-degree murder.
No other information was released regarding the baby.
