Heart-stopping video from a security camera shows a driver coming within inches of slamming into three school children.

Enraged parents in Washington said they watched the driver speed past the bus just as their children were about to get on.

The bus was stopped and the doors were opening, and then an SUV whips past the side of the school bus, nearly hitting the children about to get onboard.

“My kids. They were so close to being taken away from me. It's really, really hard to watch,” said Lisa Razo.

Nobody was hurt, but 5-year-old Charity Wolfe said it felt like something hit her.

“Because it kind of ran over my shoe a little,” she said.

The onboard surveillance system captured the near-miss from three separate angles.

Witnesses said the SUV drove around several other vehicles that were stopped behind the bus.

“And when we knew our kids were okay the anger set in, I took off running, I was part way down this hill after her,” said Brandy Wheeler.

The space where the driver passed wasn't a lane, it was about 4 feet wide, right near a shallow ditch.

“To have somebody go that far out of their way to get around the bus, at the speeds that they were going,” Wheeler said.

Her 10-year-old son Jerry was one of the students, along with Razo's 5- and 9-year-old daughters.

“They were just shell-shocked. So were we. Her son was crying,” Razo said.

It happened too fast for anyone to get a license plate number.

School district officials said all lights and signs on the bus were working, and the bus driver did everything by the book, as did the students, who waited for the bus to stop and the doors to open before getting on.

“Because if it hadn't been, you know, two or three more steps our kids might not be here,” Wheeler said.

The moms are asking parents to remind their children to wait a safe distance from the bus, wait for the doors to open, and look both ways before starting to board.
