HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -
On Monday before the July 4 weekend, AAA collected a list of the top 10 most expensive average gas prices from across the country.
According to AAA, more than 2 million New England residents have planned to travel 50 miles or more during the five-day holiday period from July 1 to July 5.
“The majority of the travelers, 1.8 million, will travel by automobile; that is a 1.1 percent increase over last year and represents the largest number of travelers for this holiday since AAA began tracking travel intent in 2001,” AAA said in a press release. “Nationwide the forecast predicts that 41.9 million Americans plan to travel, an increase of 0.7 percent over last year.”
On Monday the national average for a gallon of gas was $2.77, which is $0.90 less than drivers paid on the date last year.
“Hartford area drivers are paying an average of $2.93 a gallon today, a savings of $1.03 over last year. The current weekly average of $2.95 puts the state of Connecticut on the Top Ten Most Expensive Average Gas Prices list,” AAA said.
