A 48-year-old man is accused of burglarizing cars in Shelton.

Police said Jimmie Bennett of Bridgeport was arrested on four outstanding warrants.

Detectives in Shelton said they launched an investigation after a string of reported burglaries along the Bridgeport Avenue corridor.

The majority of the crimes happened at area hotels where residents awoke to find their vehicles broken into and items missing.

Police said Bennett has arrests in surrounding towns for similar incidents.

In each warrant, he was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree larceny and sixth-degree larceny.

Bennett was released on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on July 13.
