After more than two decades of service, Tuesday is the South Windsor police chief's last day in office.

Chief Matthew Reed headed the department for 27 years.

Police posted a tribute to him on their department's Facebook page.

"Thank you chief for all you have done for us," the post read. "We will continue the fine traditions of the [South Windsor Police Department], providing exceptional service to our citizens. We wish you well in your next career and you will be missed!"

The 50-year-old planned to retire at the end of June.
