A former Connecticut state trooper has been sentenced to two years in prison for sexually assaulting an 81-year-old woman.
Jeffrey LaPorto pleaded no contest in April to a first-degree sexual assault charge.
A Hartford Superior Court judge on Monday imposed a sentence of 10 years in prison, suspended after LaPorto serves two years, and 10 years of probation. The 44-year-old Windsor man will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
LaPorto was arrested in 2014 after the woman's son told police his mother had been sexually assaulted. She told police she and LaPorto met in the bar of her hotel and talked and drank for hours before he assaulted her in her room.
She didn't appear in court, but a rape counselor read a statement on her behalf.
