ROCKY HILL, CT (WFSB) -

After a morning of thunder, lightning and heavy rain, a cold front could bring showers and thunderstorms that pop up on Wednesday evening.

The threats prompted Eyewitness News to declare Wednesday an Early Warning Weather day.

Chief Meteorologist Bruce DePrest said showers and thunderstorms swept through the state early Wednesday morning, but thankfully very little damage was reported but there were some lightning strikes.

There may be a shower or thunderstorm that passes through on Wednesday evening, but the worst is over.

Drier air has been moving in and it feels more stable outside than it did earlier in the day.

"Overnight, we can expect a partly cloudy moonlit sky and temperatures will dip into the 50s and 60s. The Full “Buck” Moon is in the sky tonight," DePrest said.

Thursday and Friday are expected to bring bright and sunny skies, DePrest said.

"The air will be seasonably warm, but the humidity will remain in check with dew point temperatures mainly in the 50s," DePrest said. "The air temperatures will be in the low to mid 80s tomorrow."

The July 4 weekend is looking good, DePrest said.

A few showers may graze coastal sections of Southern New England but both Saturday and Sunday should be partly sunny with seasonably warm temperatures with "warm with daytime highs in the upper 70s and low 80s on Saturday, and in the low to mid 80s on Sunday. Nighttime lows will be in the 50s and lower 60s."
