A Hartford mother of four is outraged because she said her apartment building is infested with mice, and it is only getting worse.
She said her landlord isn’t doing anything to crack down on the problem.
“The hallways have cracks in them, holes in the walls. There’s mice everywhere,” said Elisabeth Lewis of Hartford, who is the mother of four small children.
She moved into the Vine Street apartment in March and said ever since then she has been dealing with the unwelcome guests.
“They started in the kitchen in this pantry and now they are in each bathroom, in the kids’ rooms, in my room, in the baby’s playpen, everywhere. So it's just nasty,” Lewis said.
Her landlord, she said, gave her traps but they haven’t done much more to help her.
She ran out of traps because she said she caught about 15 in the last two weeks.
She found three in her daughter’s room and the rest were in the kitchen.
If the mice problem isn’t enough, there was a very strong odor of gas in the apartment too.
Eyewitness News called the gas company who said they were going to send someone out.
Lewis said she is not able to live in her own home because it isn’t safe for her children.
“This building is just nasty and they should shut it down,” Lewis said.
The management company said they sent an exterminator to the building a few months ago. There are plans to send an exterminator to the building again on Thursday morning.
