A Willimantic man is set to face a judge in Danielson for allegedly firing his gun into a crowd and running from police.
Police said Montreece Prather was involved in a brawl that erupted as patrons were leaving Tony’s Pub on Main Street early Sunday morning.
Peter Nesovich, an eyewitness who spoke exclusively to Eyewitness News, said he saw the chaos unfold from across the street. He claimed that at least 30 people were involved.
As Nesovich tried to call police, he said he heard the shots.
He also said his car was damaged in the melee.
Police said his call was one of many they received that night. As they drove to the scene, they said they received another round of calls about a shooting on Brook Street.
When they arrived, Prather fled.
“There was a struggle with an officer,” said Cpl. Stan Parizo, Jr., Willimantic police. “He did climb a fence, he did get hung up on a fence. That's when the Taser was deployed. Once the Taser was deployed [and we were] attempting to get him into handcuffs, he continued to be aggressive and uncooperative with officers and at that point was placed into handcuffs without any further incident.”
Police asked anyone at the bar during closing time who may have seen what happened to give them a call.
Prather is being held on a $250,000 bond.
