A suspect believed to have struck a Naugatuck police officer has been identified.
While police have yet to release his name, they said he was in the custody of another police department after being arrested on separate charges over the weekend.
The suspect’s vehicle was also seized, according to police.
Police said Officer Robert O’Donnell was struck on July 2 while directing traffic after the annual Naugatuck fireworks event. It happened near the intersection with Church and Maple Streets. The driver fled the scene.
Detectives said they are drafting a search warrant for the vehicle along with an arrest warrant charging him with the violations from last week.
Police said O’Donnell was not seriously hurt and has been treated and released from the hospital. He suffered a minor leg and ankle injury.
More details about the suspect will be provided once he is arrested by Naugatuck police.
