State police responded to 170 crashes including 2 fatal over 4th of July weekend

MIDDLETOWN, CT (WFSB) -

After patrols over the Fourth of July weekend, state police said there were fewer crashes, DUI arrests and speeding tickets compared to last year.

State Police said there was a total of 170 crashes from Saturday morning until Sunday night. Police said injuries were reported in 48 of those crashes including two fatal crashes.

There were 312 crashes last year including 47 with injuries and no fatal crashes in 2014.

This year, state police made 33 DUI arrests and gave out 859 speeding tickets, compare to last year when there were 42 DUI arrests and 1,559 speeding tickets.  

In total, there were 2,461 other hazardous moving violation tickets handed out over the 2015 Fourth of July weekend by state police.
