(RNN) - Passengers on United Airlines flights nationwide were stranded Wednesday when the company's computer system crashed.
United has not given an estimated time for when the system will be operational. In response to a passenger, its Twitter account replied, "We're working to resolve the issue with the passenger service system and apologize for the inconvenience."
People waiting on flights took to social media to give their take on the situation.
"If you’re headed to Dulles, FYI entire @United computer system is down," tweeted James Fallows, a reporter for the Atlantic. "Boarding passes written by hand. Have fun!"
The FAA reported a "ground stop" at all facilities for an automation issue. A representative for the agency was not immediately available for further comment.
