Hartford Yard Goats officials unveiled their new logo and team colors on Wednesday afternoon.
Team officials showed off the new logo of a goat chewing a broken baseball bat in royal blue and Kelly Green during a news conference at the XL Center in Hartford.
The name of the team itself was chosen back in March after an online contest after more than 35,000 votes were submitted by fans. The Hartford Baseball Club said the Yard Goats name was selected over the Hedgehogs, Praying Mantis, River Hogs and Whirlybirds.
Team officials said Yard Goats, which is the Double-A Eastern League affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, fit the profile of a family friendly organization that appeals to children.
“The definition of a Yard Goat is a hardworking locomotive that moves trains from track to track, keeping the rail yard moving. A Minor League Baseball player is like that Yard Goat, working hard in his Minor League City to keep his Major League affiliate on track,” the team said in a statement on Wednesday.
Team officials said the “iconic font” pays “homage to the former New York/New Haven/Hartford Railroad Company.”
“This is an extremely exciting day for our franchise as we unveil our new identity. Yard Goats Baseball is all about family entertainment and having fun at Dunkin’ Donuts Park and we feel that this logo represents just that,” Yard Goats General Manager Tim Restall said.
Ground was broken on the new ballpark on June 5. Dunkin' Donuts Park was unveiled as the official name of the capital city's soon-to-be-built north end stadium on June 10.
The $58 million project in the Downtown North neighborhood will include a supermarket, a brewery, apartments, stores and restaurants. It's located at the intersection of Main and Trumbull streets, just north of Interstate-84.
The team is scheduled to play in the new stadium in April 2016.
Hartford officials said the project helped keep the former New Britain Rock Cats franchise from leaving the state.
The Yard Goats look was created by Brandiose, a marketing firm based in San Diego, CA., which has done logos for some of the most popular minor league baseball teams
“The look is a tribute to the bold, tough, and resilient spirit of Hartford and fans are going to love experiencing this at Dunkin Donuts Park,’’ Brandiose's Jason Klein said in a statement on Wednesday.
Merchandise can be purchased at the Yard Goat office at 231 Trumbull Street in Hartford, the Third Base Shop at New Britain Stadium and by clicking here.
