Detectives in Vernon said they arrested a 24-year-old woman Wednesday morning for allegedly abusing a baby.
Quandasia Hansley of Manchester was arrested on a number of charges involving the abuse of an 18-month-old boy.
Police said Hansley was charged with third-degree assault, cruelty to persons and risk of injury.
Police said they began their investigation on June 19 when doctors at the Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford notified them and the Department of Children and Families that the boy had significant bruising and abrasions on his neck and torso.
"The child was hospitalized for two days," said Vernon Lt. William Meier.
Detectives said the boy sustained the injuries during an overnight stay with Hansley at an apartment at the Dobb's Crossing Apartment Complex on Hartford Turnpike.
The victim was hospitalized for two days and was released to a family member, police said. The injuries were non-life-threatening.
Neighbors said they were surprised something like this could happen in the neighborhood.
"That blows my mind to know that a baby got hurt especially around here," said neighbor Javier Fontanez.
"It's really clean, really quiet. All the kids are nice," said neighbor Haidar Sheikh.
Police said Hansley was in a sexual relationship with the child's mother when the incident happened.
She's being held on $25,000 bond and is due in court on Thursday.
