Driver arrested after traffic cop struck in Naugatuck

NAUGATUCK, CT (WFSB) -

Police have made an arrest in a hit-and-run case the left a Naugatuck officer hurt.

Anthony Corbo, 28, was taken into custody with the help of the Waterbury Police Department.

Police said Corbo struck Officer Robert O’Donnell while O’Donnell was directing traffic after the borough’s annual fireworks event.

The incident happened on July 2 near the intersection of Church and Maple Streets.

Corbo was identified by investigators earlier this week. His vehicle was also seized.

They served an arrest warrant charging Corbo for reckless endangerment first-degree intimidation, risk of injury to a child, third-degree assault, evading responsibility, assault of a public safety person, reckless driving, striking a traffic officer, disobeying an officer’s signal, failing to yield to pedestrians and improper passing.

He was held on a $100,000 bond.

Police said Corbo faced a judge on Wednesday.

O’Donnell was not seriously hurt. Police said he suffered minor leg and ankle injuries.
