An East Haven park in desperate need of some care that's according to a resident who's determined to have it cleaned up for good.
Eyewitness News visited Russo Park on Michael Street. We came across a broken slide...graffiti...and broken glass. There was even drug paraphernalia scattered around.
It's almost heart-wrenching,” Robert Hoff, who lives in the neighborhood, said.
Hoff said the park has slowly deteriorated over the years.
According to town officials, it's one of 18 parks in East Haven.
“It's sad when there are houses 50 feet away from the park and those kids can't come and utilize the park,” Hoff said.
Aside from kids, Hoff said the park used to be a popular place for adults as well.
When the walking track was in place and well-maintained, the seniors would come up and use the walking track, as well as disable residents for exercise and peace of mind,” Hoff said.
Hoff said it's a shame what it has become.
People who live in this community, on our street or who want to visit the area, should have a safe place to relax,” he said.
Eyewitness News did reach out to town officials. As of Wednesday evening, the town had not responded to our request for comment.
