On Wednesday, the Liberty Bank Channel 3 SurPRIZE Squad paid a visit to honor two Connecticut veterans.
It was a surprise the squad and some friends have been planning for three months.
Both Rodney Forest and Patrick Hanlon are veterans receiving services from Homes for the Brave.
“I was involved in the hostage rescue attempt,” Forest said.
“I served in the U.S. Navy from 1973 to 1976, during the Vietnam Era. I was stationed aboard an aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Hancock,” Hanlon said.
On Friday, country superstar Toby Keith is performing at the XFINITY Theater in Hartford and is known for honoring service men and women on and off the stage.
The squad reached out to some friends at Country 92.5 to see if they could help do something special for Forest and Hanlon.
“We're like, that's easy, let's get this done,” said Corey of Country 92.5.
Liberty Bank’s CEO and President Chandler Howard, also a Vietnam veteran, joined the surprise on Wednesday also.
Forest and Hanlon were invited to the station to check it out, or so they thought. Then they were surprised.
“We have a surprise for you...Toby Keith will be here on July 10th, and you both are going to receive backstage passes to meet Toby Keith live and up-close, in-person,” Howard told the men.
They will also be riding in style on Friday provided by Lindsey Limousine to and from the concert.
“I had no clue at all, I thought we were just coming here for a tour. I'm glad I got dressed up,” Forest said.
“They're two great guys, and I can't think of two more people that deserve this than them,” said Olivia Ellweager, communications coordinator for Homes for the Brave.
