An investigation into a Thursday evening fire continues in Hartford.
Firefighters said they were called to a three story wood home on Harbison Avenue around 8 p.m.
When they arrived, they said they found heavy smoke coming from the third floor.
They said they learned that the fire was actually in the basement and rapidly moved through the structure within the balloon framing of the walls. They said that characteristic is typical of many of the older buildings in Hartford.
Firefighters said they struck a second alarm to call in additional manpower.
No one was found to be inside after searches of the building.
Firefighters determined that the building was vacant and no residents were forced out.
The fire was brought under control just before 8:50 p.m.
The fire marshal’s office collected data from the scene.
A cause remains under investigation. However, officials called the fire “suspicious.”
