A popular Waterbury oasis for children to take a dive in on a hot summer day hasn’t opened for the season.
The Washington Park Pool was set to open two Saturday’s ago until officials found out a piece of equipment broke.
But, families in the area said they are anxiously awaiting for it to be fixed so they can go for a swim.
“This is my favorite pool to go to," said Alex Torrez, of Waterbury.
The replacement piece was ordered but the city said it is waiting for the company to install it.
Even the city’s mayor seems irritated and took to social media saying “The company that sold us the part said it would be installed quickly. One week later we’re still waiting for the installation team.”
Right next to the pool is a summer program which 200 children take part in.
Assistant Director of Recreation has said she has fielded a ton of phone calls.
“We get about 75 to 100 phone calls a day about the pool, minimum," said Joyce Dubicki.
The children are supposed to swim at the pool three days per week but can’t.
Waterbury public works crews are still feeding the 250,000 gallon pool with the needed chemicals to keep it clean.
Many said they hope the pool is fixed soon.
“A lot of kids we have in the neighborhood don't own their own pools so for them it's the first time they'll get to go swimming in the summer," Dubicki said.
The pool is scheduled to open in one week.
