State police are asking for the public’s help locating two men responsible for an armed robbery at a truck stop off Interstate 95 in North Stonington early Thursday morning.
Two men entered the gas station at the Pilot Truck Stop off I-95 near exit 93 around 1 a.m. Police said one of the men walked behind the counter with a knife and demanded money while the second suspect held the clerks at gunpoint.
The two men took off with a small amount of money, police said. Police said they believe the suspects fled in a black colored SUV/van-type vehicle.
After searching the surrounding area, the suspects were not located. Police gathered evidence, interviewed eyewitnesses and released suspect descriptions.
One of the suspects, who is believed to be 5’10” and 200 pounds, had on a black hooded sweatshirt with a black bandana, which police said covered his nose and mouth. During the robbery, police said he was also wearing black pants and brown colored footwear while carrying a small rifle.
The second suspect, who is believed to be 6’ and weighs between 140 to 150 pounds, was wearing a black hooded sweat shirt that covered the top of his head. He was wearing black high water pants in what police called “possible Dickie's style” and blue sneakers while carrying a knife.
There is no word if the clerks were injured during the armed robbery.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad at 860-848-6530 or Troop E at 860-848-6530.
