BRISTOL, CT (WFSB) -

Hundreds of Whalers fans packed the Bristol Blues Ball Club on Thursday evening.

The Bristol Blues took on the Torrington Titans, and before the game Whalers fans took over for a good cause.

The Bristol Blues called Thursday night Whalers Appreciation Night to celebrate the Whalers hockey club and push the National Hockey League to reconsider placing a hockey team back in the state.

In 1997 the hockey team relocated to North Carolina.

Thursday night was about remembering the fond memories before the Whalers left.

“Bob Muldun, who actually wrote the Brass Banaza, he's ‎actually here signing autographs and there's going to be a couple of whalers that are coming. We're keeping that under wraps. You have to get here first and find them,” said Allan Lamberti of 102.9 The Whale.

There was even a Whalers fan list for people who were interested in buying season tickets, if and when the team ever returns.

“Hopefully maybe figuring out a way to bring back the team to Hartford,” Lamberti said.

Fans even had a booklet and were asking people to sign their names in an effort to push the state to develop a Whalers license plate.
