Several cities and towns are doing their part to keep people cool during this week’s potential heat wave.

Some businesses, like Durham Dari Serv, said the hot weather means some extra crash.

“We get lines that will go out to the street wrap around the building but you do what you can try to keep everyone happy,” said Phil Perrino, Durham Dari Serv.

While some kept cool with frozen treats, others opted to stay indoors on Monday.

With cooling centers opened across the state, there were plenty of options.

"We were planning to go to the park today but it has been so hot and the library is so nice and air conditioned,” said Suretha Koontz of Simsbury.

Anyone who has to be outside said it’s important to stay hydrated, wear loose-fitting clothing and recognize the signs of heat exhaustion.

"You feel kind of nauseous,” said Dr. Steven Wolf, St. Francis Hospital. “You feel kind of weak.  You're sweating a lot. And that's really the time you need to stop and get out of the heat."

Doctors also warn to never leave a child or pet in the car. They ask that people look before they lock.
