The Channel 3 Liberty Bank SurPRIZE Squad lent a helping paw to the Meriden Humane Society.
The volunteers there said they’ve endured their fair share of hard times.
The squad arrived that the location Wednesday morning with a truck full of goodies.
It piled in plenty of dog food, toys, cat food and cat litter. Also included were bleach and other cleaning supplies.
"The animals just, they come first. They come first,” said Marlena DiBianco, Meriden Humane Society. “Everything about them and their needs comes first before anything."
DiBianco said she is the executive director of the Meriden Humane Society where she thought the Liberty Bank SurPRIZE Squad was there for a different story.
However, she was the story.
The “no kill” facility runs on donations and a volunteer staff of 27 pet-loving people.
Many times, they said they reach into their own pockets to car for the animals.
"So, it's kinda cool,” said DiBianco. “It's a little miracle that happens every day. It's nice.”
DiBianco had no idea what the squad had in store for her.
The truck load of donations sat outside the humane society. The squad hoped it could make a difference.
DiBianco said it was enough to help out for almost a month.
Her daughter hopes it’ll mean relief for her mother.
"She has plenty of sleepless nights but you know what?” said Heather Sullivan, DiBianco’s daughter and shelter volunteer. “I think she'll get to bed tonight."
The volunteers said the shelter was recently vandalized. They said if they took money from the city or state, it could mean that they’d have to start euthanizing animals.
They said that’s not an option for them. They said they want every animal to have a loving home.
"I love when they go out the door, it's the best thing in the world,” DiBianco said. “That's why we're here, to see them off. So we need to make that happen. You guys are awesome, this is so cool. Thank you.”
