BRANFORD, CT (WFSB) -

On Wednesday, about 4,100 Eversource customers were without power in Branford after a utility pole broke.

Branford police said a construction worker in the area of Kirkham Street, near the railroad station, damaged a utility pole guide wire causing the upper portion of the pole to break in half.

Customers in the Kirkham Street, Maple Street, Short Beach Road and adjacent neighborhoods are affected by the power loss, officials said.

Police closed Kirkham Street from Main Street to the intersection of Maple Street and Indian Neck Avenue while repairs were made.

It is unclear when power will be restored to all customers.

A Cooling Center has been established at the Branford Community Center, 46 Church Street.
