HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

The state’s Department of Transportation said there has been a drop in distracted driving around the state.

On Wednesday, the department said there was an 8 percent drop in drivers using their mobile devices during the last enforcement period in April.

Despite that drop, officers still handed out nearly 16,000 citations to drivers who were ignoring the laws.

A new “U Drive, U Text, U Pay” campaign runs from Aug. 3 through Aug. 16.
