GREENWICH, CT (WFSB) -

Nearly a year after a boating accident claimed the life of a 16-year-old in Greenwich, officials have fined the boat’s operator.

Investigators said Emily Fedorko died after tubing behind a boat being operated by 17-year-old Elizabeth Lewis.

On Aug. 6, 2014, Fedorko was in the waters of Long Island Sound with another girl when the tube became entangled in the propeller of the outboard engine.

The incident happened between one and two miles away the dock on the open waters of Captains Harbor.

Detectives said they invested hundreds of hours in determining the facts surrounding the case. With the statute of limitations on likely charges set to run out at the one year mark, they received word from the state’s attorney’s office.

The office said on Monday that only Lewis, of Riverside, CT, would be prosecuted.

Her infractions included violation of boating regulations, insufficient requirements when waterskiing and violation of rules in preventing a collision.

On Thursday, police said Lewis was issued an infraction compliant ticket with fines totaling $150.

With that, police said their investigation concluded.
