Officials closed off a portion of Route 322 in Southington on Monday because of a water main break.
The Department of Transportation said the closure is between Canal Street and Clark Street.
The DOT expected the closure to remain in place for at least 12 hours.
The break was first reported just after 12:30 p.m.
Work crews struck a service line, Southington police said.
Officials added that a small number of residents are being impacted, along with a small strip mall.
Traffic heading east is being diverted onto Canal Street and then Burritt Street and Clark Street then back onto Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike. Traffic heading west is being diverted onto Clark Street then Burritt Street then Canal Street and onto Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike.
