Pregnant mother killed in I-95 crash, child in critical condition

STONINGTON, CT (WFSB) -

A pregnant woman was killed in a crash that closed I-95 south in Stonington on Tuesday morning.

Interstate-95 southbound was shut down because of the deadly single car crash at about 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

State police said the crash happened in the area of exit 91.

Police said the mother, identified as 26-year-old Alexandra Brown of Niantic, was driving when her vehicle left the road, hit the rope metal beam guardrail and rolled over several times.

Brown was ejected from the vehicle.

She was transported to Westerly Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Brown was nine-months pregnant and the baby was born via a C-section and transported to the Woman's and Infant's Hospital in Rhode Island.

The child remains in critical but stable condition.
