HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

He may not be his party's endorsed candidate, but Hartford's incumbent mayor plans on submitting a petition to be on the ballot this November.

Mayor Pedro Segarra lost the Democratic Party endorsement to challenger Luke Bronin last week.

However, the incumbent's office said he'll be submitting his petition on Thursday.

"The mayor is planning to submit his signatures [Wednesday] afternoon," said Jenna Grande, Segarra's assistant communications director. "He has achieved the 1,700 signatures required. The mayor may discuss his petition signatures during campaign-related interviews; however, he will not discuss them during his scheduled city-related appearances. His focus remains primarily on the city of Hartford, and how he will continue to move Hartford forward."

Bronin was officially endorsed during a Democratic convention at Bulkeley High School on July 27,

Segarra left the convention before delegates even started voting.

He said he would instead seek the support of voters.

Last weekend, Segarra said he temporarily suspended his campaign in light of the violence that gripped the city. Twenty homicides have been recorded over the course of 2015.
